Leveraging the dual strengths of our nation’s rich cultural heritage and culinary traditions, the Ministry of Culture and the Hellenic Organization of Cultural Resources Development (ODAP) are spearheading a new outward-looking initiative. This effort aims to mark a new role of the two institutions in their collective endeavour for economic and social growth.
19 archaeological sites, monuments and historical sites have been chosen to host events or activities related to promoting and celebrating local culinary traditions.
The places chosen to host presentations of local products, herbs, local wines and liqueurs, as well as culinary tastings are: Nikopolis in Epirus, Delphi in Central Greece, the Museum of Aigai, the Roman Agora of Thessaloniki and the Heptapyrgion of Thessaloniki in Central Macedonia, Mystras, Chrysafitissa Square in Monemvasia, Nemea in Corinth, the Fortified complex of Mourtzinoi – Troupakides in Kardamyli, the Andromonastiro (Men’s Monastery) in Messinia, the Fortress of Pylos (Niokastro) and the Rio Fortress in the Peloponnese, the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights in Rhodes, the Ancient Zone of Evros and Amphipolis in Serres in Eastern Macedonia -Thrace, the Tsiatsiapas Mansion in Kastoria, as well as the Venetian Fortifications in the city of Chania, Frangokastello (Castelfranco) in Sfakia and the Venetian Fortress of Sitia (Kazarma Fortress) in Crete.
Through this action, which was launched in the summer of 2022, we are striving towards a creative collaboration that will highlight Greece’s intangible cultural heritage, connecting it with important archaeological sites.
