The Directorate for Publications and Digital Applications is organised into four (4) Departments: the Department for Scientific Publications, the Department for Development of Digital Publications and Applications, the Department for Archaeological Guides and General Interest Publications, and the Department for Artistic Design of Publications.
Publishing has been part of ODAP’s activities ever since the establishment of the original organization and has become a cornerstone of archaeologists’ work and an important channel for informing visitors to museums and archaeological sites.
The Directorate publishes 9 categories of publications:
Periodicals: The following periodicals are published on a regular basis: The Αρχαιολογικόν Δελτίον (Archaeological Bulletin), The Museum, and The Archaeological Annals of Athens.
Monographs: Scientific papers in Greek or in foreign languages, accompanied by extensive abstracts in the foreign language or in Greek, depending on the language of the text.
Catalogues: For temporary archaeological exhibitions organized by museums, usually on the occasion of an anniversary, or by the Ministry of Culture in the context of a cultural memorandum.
Conference proceedings: On matters pertaining to archaeology, organized by and for the archaeological community. The conference papers are in Greek or in foreign languages, and are accompanied, respectively, by an abstract in Greek or in the foreign language.
Scientific catalogues: These concern exhibits or related finds kept at museum storerooms, which belong to a specific category, such as sculpture, and to a specific period.
Honorary volumes: These are publications issued in honour of distinguished archaeologists, professors of archaeology, professors emeriti or prominent curators of antiquities (Honorary Ephors of Antiquities) honoured by the Greek and international scientific community, usually on the occasion of their retirement.
Special Publications: Publications that do not fall into any of the aforementioned categories. These comprise, for example, application dossiers for the inclusion of ancient monuments in the World Heritage List that are submitted by the Ministry of Culture to UNESCO – so far the Directorate has published four such dossiers for Philippi, Spinalonga, the Zagori Villages and the Minoan Palatial Centres, as well as the Hague Manual – a manual for the army on the protection of antiquities in times of war, and a more general interest publication on intangible cultural assets.

Publications Nos 1-7 listed above are addressed to the archaeological community, while publications 8 and 9 are intended for visitors to archaeological sites and museums.
The Directorate also maintains an archive collection of photographs, slides and drawings. 10,000 slides from ODAP’s photographic archive have been digitised.
The digitised photographic material has been uploaded to the repository of the National Documentation Centre, as a digital collection of the Archaeological Resources Fund, SearchCulture.gr
Since 2009, the Directorate has been keeping a digital archive of the new editions of the Hellenic Organization of Cultural Resources Development (ODAP).
Third-party publications are approved for circulation by a committee appointed by ministerial decision, whose members include the Head of the Directorate for Publications and Digital Applications. The distribution of such publications falls within the responsibility of the Department of Consignments. These publications are available at ODAP’s shops at archaeological sites and museums.
